Renter's Rebate: Money Back for Seniors Who Rent

September 20, 2026 · Quinebaug Valley Senior Center staff

Connecticut's renter's rebate program gives money back each year to renters who are 65 or older, or who are totally disabled, and whose income is under the program limit. If you rent your home or apartment, you may be owed a check.

WHO USUALLY QUALIFIES

  • You were 65 or older by the end of last year, OR you are totally disabled
  • You rent the home or apartment you live in, in Connecticut
  • Your income is under the program limit (the limit changes from year to year)

WHAT TO BRING

  • Rent receipts or a rent statement for the full year
  • Utility bills you paid (heat, electricity)
  • Proof of income: your Social Security statement, pension, and any other income
  • Photo ID

WHEN TO FILE

The program has a filing window each year, and the dates are set by the state and your town. Call us at (860) 774-1243 and we will confirm the current dates and help you file before the deadline.

HOW THE CENTER HELPS

Our Municipal Agent to the Elderly will sit down with you, check that you qualify, review your receipts and bills, and help you complete the filing — at no charge. If anything is missing, we will tell you exactly what to bring next time.
