Medicaid (HUSKY) for Seniors: What to Know

October 1, 2026 · Quinebaug Valley Senior Center staff

In Connecticut, Medicaid is called HUSKY Health. For older adults, it can help pay for doctor visits, hospital care, prescriptions, and long-term care at home or in a nursing facility. It works alongside Medicare.

What HUSKY can help with

  • Medical costs Medicare doesn't fully cover
  • Home care services that help you stay in your own home
  • Nursing home care
  • Free rides to medical appointments through MTM Health: (855) 478-7350 (schedule at least 48 hours ahead)

Who usually qualifies

Eligibility depends on your income, your savings and other assets, and the kind of care you need. The rules are detailed and change from year to year, so please call to confirm before deciding you don't qualify.

What to bring

  • Photo ID, Medicare card, and Social Security card
  • Proof of income
  • Bank statements and information about other assets
  • Any health insurance cards
